My goals for this program really focused on strengthening the Technology portion of my TPACK skills. I joined the innovative learning program in an attempt to stretch myself and broaden my horizons. I learned how to be a teacher in a bit of a bubble. My credential program was very traditional (think lots of direct instruction, very little innovation) and then I spent a couple of years subbing while I waited for a position in my content area to open up. Once I found myself a position, things had changed, drastically and while I was very willing to try new things, I didn't really have much of a clue what those new things were. So I was very excited to join the innovative learning program. MY DQ even focuses on the use of technology, I was wondering if there were ways to leverage this incredible preference for the use of technology over analog to help raise student reading engagement levels.
I've really enjoyed my cohort so far, the fact that most of us are from a close geographical area helps tremendously. It's also really neat for me to have several others focusing on reading and writing DQs. So even though we're working with students at different age levels I'm looking forward to the ways that our research and findings might might overlap. We can be great advocates for each other. Both in terms of emotional support as well as practical classroom application of our TPACK.
In terms of group norms I think we have this thing nailed down. We've great at providing positive feedback (even if it's criticism it's still presented in ways to get better, not just a negative reaction), and we've all banded together like a little school family to support each other emotionally. The comments that have been left on my blog have been full of useful suggestions and positive support. I feel like we're all supporting each other, that a win for any one of us is a win for the team.
