I also liked to use Snagit to take quick videos of my screen and make a GIF that I could post into my daily agendas. For example I could go through the process for submitting a digital assignment in ECHO and record my screen, then I could use Snagit to GIF that video and embed that video into my resources page. Then whenever a student asked me how to submit an assignment, I could say, "Go to the resources page and watch the video." This worked for all sorts of things, and saved me so much time.
I played with the tool for a while, I would say that it took a few hours (cumulatively) to get to where I was comfortable using it without having to go over the directions.
I didn't use this tool as something that I would have the students use. I used it primarily for creating videos and images that I could use with the students. I feel like this was the perfect tool for the job, I used it frequently, and I didn't have to use it in concert with any other tools to make it effective.
The only major wrinkle is that as of the middle of this summer the free portion of Snagit went away. This was a major bummer. Now I am in the process of looking for another tool that will work as well. although, the education price is $30, and that includes video editing as an option...so I may consider paying for the tool.
Does anyone else have a screen capture tool that they like? I'd love recommendations.
